Why is Osmotic Pressure (π) preferred over other colligative properties for determining the molecular mass of proteins and polymers?.
Expert Answer
Magnitude & Temperature Stability. For heavy molecules (polymers), the number of moles is tiny. ΔTb and $\Delta ΔTf values are too small to measure accurately. Osmotic pressure, however, gives a significant, measurable value (in mmHg or atm) even at room temperature, preventing the denaturation of proteins that might occur at boiling points.
