The product (A) formed in the following reaction sequence is:
- a
- b
- c✓
- d
This is a simple question where we are carrying out three reactions. First is the addition of water across the carbon triple bond carbon which gives us enol. The enol tautomerises to form acetone.
In the next step reaction with HCN proceeds through nucleophilic addition across the carbonyl bond, resulting in the formation of cyanohydrin. Then the last step is catalytic hydrogenation where the carbon triple bond nitrogen is completely reduced to 1° amine.
